STEAM Mural
The Art Teachers definitely put the “A” is STEAM this year with a whole-school mural! For STEAM Day, we wanted to create an event where students could not only actively engage in the arts, but once we decided to create a mural, it was also important to us that every student and staff member had the opportunity to participate and make their mark at DRE! Our mural incorporated basic images of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, which was then divided into a grid of over 1,000 squares!
Every class came down to paint in a record ten-minute time slot! As they arrived, they watched a cute instructional video on our expectations and how to paint their square, which was also a great way to incorporate technology into the event. Once they finished painting, each student received a coloring sheet of the mural sketch to complete while waiting for their class and as a special keepsake of the event.
Overall, all the small painted squares came together to form a STEAM mural, just as our students and staff came together to complete this awesome school community project. Although we have a little more left to add before we can say it is “complete,” we are all very proud of this huge accomplishment and legacy project! This was definitely the talk of the school, as the kids were so excited to participate and paint on the wall! Next time you’re at DRE, make sure to ask your child which square is theirs, as this is something we hope they remember for many years to come!
